The University of Georgia’s American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) chapter is a student-run organization building the future of aerospace engineering through hands-on design, innovation, and collaboration. With over 120 active members, AIAA UGA provides students with opportunities to design, build, test, and compete through six project teams spanning Beginner Rocketry, Advanced Rocketry, RC Planes, Design Build Fly, the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), and student-led Open Projects.
From launching first rockets to competing on the international stage, our students gain real-world engineering experience while developing the technical and leadership skills needed for the aerospace industry. In 2026, UGA Rocketry earned 2nd place in the 10K COTS category and 5th overall at IREC, showcasing the dedication of more than 20 engineering students and the continued growth of a program that began with just five members in 2021.
Beyond competitions, AIAA UGA connects students with industry professionals, hosts networking events, and creates a collaborative environment where new ideas take flight. Whether building a first high-powered rocket through Beginner Rocketry or developing advanced aerospace systems, our mission is to inspire the next generation of engineers and demonstrate what Georgia engineering can accomplish.
